Biography

David Gold is a partner at Serling Rooks Hunter McKoy Worob & Averill LLP. His broad transactional practice includes the representation of companies and creative talent regarding entertainment business practices and strategies, including all aspects of recorded music, music publishing, music production, copyright and trademark issues, new media and technologies, executive employment and personal management.

Prior to rejoining Serling Rooks in 2020, Mr. Gold was Head of Business & Legal Affairs for SONGS Music Publishing and its affiliated record company, RECORDS, from 2015-2017 where he established and ran a new business and legal affairs department. At SONGS and RECORDS he created, structured and drafted all legal and business affairs related contracts, documents and procedures of the companies. He also counseled the CEO, President and other executives regarding top-level managerial, operational, and strategic matters. Mr. Gold was heavily involved in the sale of SONGS’ assets, including drafting and negotiating the purchase agreement and overseeing the legal due diligence process.

After the sale of SONGS and RECORDS, Mr. Gold served as the first General Counsel of Hitco Entertainment, a start-up independent record label. At Hitco, he advised the Co-CEOs about key legal and strategic decisions and liaised with the CFO with respect to various financial matters. In addition, he managed the day-to-day business and legal affairs of Hitco, including negotiating, drafting and reviewing all entertainment related agreements.

Mr. Gold received a Bachelor of Science from the University of Michigan and his Juris Doctor from Fordham University School of Law. He began in career as an attorney in the entertainment industry for RCA Records in 1995. In 1997 Mr. Gold joined the law firm of Selverne, Mandelbaum & Mintz as an associate and then became a partner in 2003. In 2008, Mr. Gold joined Serling Rooks. During his time at both law firms, Mr. Gold has represented numerous recording artists, producers, songwriters, independent record labels, music publishers, industry executives and personal managers in all aspects of the entertainment industry.
